Feriados: como encontrar voos baratos / Holidays: how to spend less money on flights

Hoje trago-vos um post diferente do habitual, mas afinal de contas não me posso esquecer do lado "nómada" deste blog. Com o feriado do 8 de Dezembro a aproximar-se decidi escrever-vos algumas dicas para pouparem dinheiro nos voos em feriados ou alturas especiais. 

1. Reservem o voo com antecedência 

Se já sabem que vão poder viajar em determinada altura e não há nada que vos possa impedir de ir, então não hesitem e reservem - principalmente durante as épocas de feriados porque a dado momento as pessoas vão todas a correr comprar bilhetes (1 mês e pouco antes) e os preços disparam para preços absurdos.

2. Viajem em companhias low cost

Este é bastante óbvio. Mas! Tenham em atenção também as companhias caras porque muitas vezes estas também fazem promoções para épocas especiais. Para aproveitarem as promoções convém irem ao site deles no mínimo com 2 meses de antecedência.

3. Escalas 

Imaginemos que vocês não conseguiram encontrar preços baratos seguindo as dicas anteriores. Resta-vos as escalas. Se estão a pensar viajar para um destino muito popular como Londres ou Paris, podem pensar em fazer escala num sítio para onde a maior parte das pessoas não esta a pensar viajar ou num sítio pouco turístico, por ex. Polónia ou Marselha (Sao destinos mais indicados para o verão). É obvio que terão muito mais trabalho porque têm de comparar os horários de voos, verificar se o sítio onde fazem escala depois tem ligação para o vosso destino final e claro, se o preço compensa. 

Vou viajar em Dezembro e posso-vos dizer que ao optar por fazer escala consegui poupar mais de 100€. Toda a gente quer vir num voo directo e dia 8, por isso neste momento os voos estão a preços ridículos. Ao fazer escala, em vez de pagar 140€ paguei 57€.

4. Se nenhuma destas dicas resultou e vocês querem mesmo viajar então só vos resta comparar os preços das companhias low cost com as caras. É provável que a dado momento o preço das low cost atinja um valor igual ao de uma companhia "maior", por isso, optem pela companhia mais cara porque provavelmente vão ter mais regalias como comida e entretenimento a bordo e possibilidade de transportar mais bagagem.

So, today's post is a bit different from the usual. I mean, this blog still has a "wanderlust" side, I can't forget that. Today I'm talking about how you can save some money when travelling during the holidays. Have you ever noticed how flights' prices tend to go up during the holidays? It's pretty frustrating because everyone wants to enjoy their free time and travel! (including me) Then, there are a few cities that are more famous than others, like London or Paris. This is where you can get an advantage. But let's start with something more simple.

1. Book your flight with time 

If you know that you're able to travel during those days and that nothing can happen, don't hesitate and just book that flight. Especially during holidays because most people tend to book their flight a month before travelling. Trust me, I've learnt from my previous experiences. I just kept checking the prices every other day and then: bam! The price went up and I lost my chance to fly for a bargain..

2. Choose low cost companies

This one is pretty obvious. But don't forget to check the big airlines as well because sometimes they do sales/discounts on holidays (make sure you check their website with at least 2 months from the time of the holiday). 

3. Stopover

Let's imagine you were like me, hesitate to book your flight and the price is terribly high. This is where you can save a few money. If you want to go to a popular destination you should think of doing a stopover in a place where most people don't want to travel to. For ex.: If you want to go to Paris in December you could book a flight to Poland or Marseille and then fly out to Paris. Of course you have to plan this really well because you need to check the schedules, if the place where you're doing a stopover has flights to the place you want to go and finally, if the price is worth it. 

I'm flying in a Portuguese holiday, in December, and I'm making a stopover on my way back that made me save more than half the price of a direct flight. So, yeah, you have to check all the pros and cons.

4. If none of this works, you'll probably find the prices of low cost airlines equal to the prices of "big" airlines so go ahead and book with a fancy airline. At least you'll probably have food and entertainment on the plane!
